Aquatic therapy
Aquatic therapy: rehab with less strain on your joints
Warm-water therapy lets you move sooner and with less pain by taking weight off healing joints. With a therapy pool at both our Diamondhead and Gulfport clinics, pool-based rehab is close to home wherever you are on the Coast.
What is aquatic therapy?
Aquatic therapy is physical therapy performed in a warm pool. The water supports your body weight, so you can move, strengthen, and rebuild balance with far less stress on healing joints. It's often used early after surgery, for arthritis, and when land-based exercise is still too painful — then you transition to the gym as you improve.
What aquatic therapy helps
Post-surgical recovery
Move safely in the weeks after surgery, when the water's support lets you rebuild strength before your joints can handle full weight on land.
Arthritis & joint pain
Warm water eases stiff, painful joints so you can exercise with far less discomfort than on land.
Chronic low back pain
Gentle, supported movement calms back pain and rebuilds core strength without jarring impact.
Balance & fall risk
The pool is a safe place to challenge balance — you can practice without the fear of falling.
Weight-bearing limits
When you're told to limit weight on a leg or joint, the water keeps you moving while you heal.
Fibromyalgia & sensitive pain
Warmth and buoyancy make aquatic therapy well suited to pain-prone bodies.
How aquatic therapy works
Warm-water pool
Water kept at a comfortable temperature relaxes muscles and joints from the first minute.
Buoyancy support
The water offloads much of your body weight, so movements that hurt on land become possible.
Gentle resistance
Water provides even resistance in every direction to rebuild strength safely.
Transition to land
As you get stronger, your therapist moves you from pool to gym so gains carry into daily life.
Why patients choose Community Rehab
Care for the whole family
Physical, aquatic, and pediatric therapy under one roof — so kids, parents, and grandparents can all be cared for at the same practice.
A therapy pool at both clinics
Warm-water aquatic therapy in Diamondhead and Gulfport — pool-based rehab close to home, whether you're on the western or central Coast.
Insurance-friendly, Medicare accepting
We accept most insurance plans and Medicare, verify your benefits before you start, and tell you what to expect — no surprise bills.
Locally owned
The people caring for you are your neighbors, invested in this community — not a distant corporate chain.
Your first appointment
After a brief land evaluation, your therapist introduces you to the pool and a starting routine. No swimming ability is required — the water stays at a comfortable depth and temperature, and your therapist is right there with you.
How long a plan of care runs
Aquatic sessions are often paired with land therapy, and many patients graduate from pool to gym as strength returns. Your therapist maps the progression at your evaluation.
Where to find this care
Offered at both of our Gulf Coast clinics.
Questions
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. Aquatic therapy is done standing in shallow, warm water where you can touch the bottom, with your therapist alongside you.
Is the pool warm?
Yes — the water is kept warm to ease muscles and joints, which is part of what makes it comfortable for recovery.
Which clinic has the pool?
Both. Our Diamondhead and Gulfport clinics each have a warm-water therapy pool, so you can go to whichever is closer.
